Collector

Collection trays are installed below the support grid in order to collect the liquid running off the packed bed.

Several types of collection trays have been developed according to various application and material requirements:

  • Chinese hat
  • Vane-type collector
  • Chimney collection tray

Usually the liquid is led from the collection tray into a circumferential collection trough or into a draw-off pocket. The collection tray can also be used as an internal pump tank if necessary. In this case, the liquid remains at the bottom of the column during the column’s shut down. The tank volume depends on the height of the gas chimneys of the collector. In order to avoid sealing problems, the collection tray is usually welded or laminated into the column.
