Demister
Mist eliminators are installed at the head of the column, or in combination with a collection tray between two packing stages.
They separate liquid particles from the gas, and minimize liquid entrainment by the effluent gas flow out of the column or from one packing to another.
There are two main types of mist eliminators available: wire mesh demisters and vane-type separators. Furthermore, non-irrigated packed bed stages can also double as mist eliminators.
The efficiency of mist eliminators is expressed by the rate of separation and droplet size limitations. These values indicate the percentage of separation of the liquid particles out of the gas at a defined column diameter.
